Of course the best known single adult in the Bible was Jesus. In fact he was a never-married. Somewhere in Ellen White's writings (anyone know where?) she says Jesus never married because he didn't want to put a spouse through what he knew he would have to face. I believe he was also single because he needed everything he had to focus on his mission to save a lost world. This is often why the single adult who has been given the 'gift' of singleness as found in Matthew 11:19, has 'gift.' It iis so they can focus totally on the mission that God has given them to perform.

So, we must ask, have we been given the 'gift' of singleness? Can we do more for the Lord as a single than if we were married? Some can anwer 'yes' while others answer 'no.'
Since making the above post back in 2006, I am becoming more convinced that Jesus does give the 'gift' of singleness to some people. When you see singles carrying out a great (or small) ministry that they could not do if they were married, then it confirms this belief. From time to time I run into some of them. They are certainly people to be admired and looked up to!

Yes, of course. Both marrieds and singles are in this life together and Jesus did not seem to distinguish between either. The only place which might indicate any preference was that he really like to visit the home of his single friends in Bethany; Lazarus, Mary and Martha. He liked visiting there because he was among friends who did not critize him but accepted him just as he was; their Saviour.
