YES dogs have a higher pitch than human beings
so the crying sound might hurt the dogs hears.

It hurts my ears too!

Today one of the families in my church came with their new set of twins that are about 3 weeks old. This is the first time they have been there and they were quiet but, one of the mother's sisters was helping to look after hers and their older child and one of them kept crying. It was hard to listen to it and the sermon. Maybe my hearing is getting more acute as I get older or something but, it's hard to take. Maybe I'd prefer a dogs cries to that of a young child!? :- )
