Here are some suggestions of things a person can do for their community:
Leave coins in someone's garden - this was reported to have been done with gold coins in the south of London.
Sweep someone's driveway whe he's not looking.
Pay someone else's bill and disappear before she can thank you.
Buy a doll for a homeless child and attch a nice note.
Clean up the weeds in a shut-in's yeard and water the plants if they need it.
Join in when your community has a day to clean up gang graffiti.
Pick up someone's newspaper that was thrown in the street by mistake and deposit it on his doorstep.
Let someone in on the freeway.
If you know of a person living on a fixed income, secretly sneak her your discount coupons.
Return kind words for negative as often as possible.
Forgive people their imperfections at every opportunity.
Make yourself and someone else laugh.
Make at least three positive affirmations of another human being per day. If you are in the habit of appreciating people, it will raise your awareness level of the joyfulness in your own life.
If you are religious, affirm your faith each day.
Never miss the chance to say thank you, even for the tiniest of good things.
Give the world the gift of your quiet competence today. Do your job. Do it well. Do it with joy and all your artistry.
Forgive! It isn't always possible to forget a transgression but it's always possible to forgive one.
Donate blood.
Carry stamps with you. When you hear someone talk appreciatively about someone else, ask them if they'd like to send them a quick note of appreciation. We are often quick to criticize but slow to appreciate.
Never give up on anybody. Mircacles happen every day. Sharpen your visual perception by looking for progress, no matter how small.
Be respectful to public employees. Thank them for helping your community and tell them you appreciate what they are doing. Brighten their day with a joke or pun and warm them with a smile.
