A very special day is now only one week away.....September 2, the 1st day of school is now only one week away. That is a Canadian day....is it the same in the U.S.?

both public---private---and church schools.

started and ended the day after MEMORIAL DAY

That's true where I live as well. Public school went back into session August 13; academy started August 21. However, there are a few private schools that are non-denominational that won't start back until September 2. That is, if you don't count the year round schools which have been in session since July 2. It's enough to make my head spin keeping track of it all!
I guess we make up for it in June because we (church and public school) don't get out of school until about the 28th of June and I think you get out the end of May? So, now we can start later.
If only! Academy does get out the first Friday in June but public school goes until the following week. A couple years ago they modified the holiday schedules. The kids get off one whole week for Thanksgiving, three weeks at Christmas, and two weeks for spring break. It's good in a lot of ways but I have to admit I miss the days when I was young and school was already over by the end of May.
